Obituary of Joan Freda
Joan passed away peacefully at Almonte, Ontario on November 1, 2023. Joan, in her 83rd year, beloved wife and best friend of George Freda for 63 years. Loving mother of Karen (Rob Fletcher) of Ottawa, Kim (Tony Disipio) of Ottawa, Joanne (Glen Summers) of White Lake, Julie (Bryan Patacairk) of Almonte and David (Heather McRae) of Carp. Special Grandma to Bradley, Ashley, Jade, Samantha, Chelsey, Colton, Carter, Jillian, Douglas and George. Great Grandma to Braedan, Katie, Melissa, DomInik, Lilliana, Tristan and June. Dear daughter of the late Donald Kirkpatrick and Hazel Morgan. Dear sister of Gail (late Lanny) Steele of Ottawa and Wendy (Rick Ashton) of Alberta Beach and the late Donald (Cindy) Kirkpatrick and the late Robert Kirkpatrick of Ottawa. Sister-in-law to Toni (Mike) McKennirey of Montreal, Lois (late Tacey) Leahy of Ottawa, Garry (Helen) Freda of Carleton Place, Marty (Darlene) Freda of Ottawa, Jerry (Gloria) Freda of Ottawa , Warren (Paula) Freda of Ottawa, Paula (Pete Stewart) of Seeley’s Bay, the late Joan Layberry (Everett Findlay) and the late Donald Freda. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Ottawa Joan enjoyed her work at the Ottawa Civic Hospital Foundation while raising her children. Joan organized the family details for weekend camping trips with their friends. Once retired, Joan loved living at their White Lake home and used her organizational talents to assist as treasurer or secretary with the various associations to which she and George belonged. Together they enjoyed snowmobiling, golf, cruises, travel, winters in Florida and getting together with their many friends.
