What a legend. I will never forget the dinner party he hosted for Ian and me when we were married. After serving a delicious paella, Cholo silenced the raucous rugby crowd and read us a love poem by Pablo Neruda in Spanish. Only he spoke the language but he made us all feel and understand it. No dry eyes. Sending love to Isabela, Victoria, Alexandra, Maria-Christina, Julio, Pam and Nora. Rest easy old friend.

The echo of the tremendous news reached Spain and shook us.
The last happy memory that remains in our hearts is that one of him, touring Spain last summer with her daughter Isabela and visiting his relatives. From north to south, from Galicia to Andalucía, passing through Castilla....enjoying life.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
From his aunt Marisol Manso and her sons Jose, Ricardo y Juan and the rest of the family.

I remember the first time Isabela brought me home to meet Chel. From the moment I met him he welcomed me with open arms, a dish towel on his shoulder and an apron around his waist. He cooked us a delicious meal, listened to Spanish dinner music, drank lots of beer and wine and listened to his stories all night (still don’t believe some of them…sorry Chel). After a great evening filled with laughter, he then proceeded to pull out his gun collection in an effort to show me who’s boss (I wasn’t scared). From playing dominoes, to listening to him tell me how I missed a spot after mowing his entire lawn, and how rugby is better than football, you will be deeply missed Chel.
Till next time,
Jacob

I met Cholo on day one of boot camp at CFB Chilliwack in August 1988. He was the first person I met there under trying circumstances. I remember saying to myself "I'm staying close to this guy, he makes me laugh". We became close friends through mutual joys and hardships and shared a love of motorcycles, scotch and fine cigars. He loved Spain and his family and never missed an opportunity to tell you about them. Quick witted with a silver tongue, he could tell a story like no one else. When "Chub" asked you how you were doing... he really meant it. He always spoke from the heart. Fair winds my friend and may God bless you and your family. Ready Aye, Ry Ward. Boston MA

Dear Izzy, Victoria, and Alex,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time.
The balcony in Spain, at the head of the table, a beer in hand, a raconteur with a huge smile is how we will remember him.
The one thing we can be sure of .. is that in heaven .. you can’t lose your quad bike when you are out hunting. ❤️
Sending our love to you all.
