Obituary of Gertrude (Thompson) Scissons (née Parent)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Trudy (Gert) on December 17, 2023.
Trudy was born March 6, 1941 to the late Gabriel & Lucie (Lalande). Beloved wife of Thomas John (Tom) Scissons and the late Clarence Thompson.
She was blessed with having a French upbringing and marrying into English speaking families and community.  This allowed her to be affectionately known by many names.  Gertrude, Gert, Trudy, Mom, Momma, Aunt, ma Tante, Grandmaman, Grandma, Great Grandmaman and even known to a few as Great-Great-Grandma.
She was a loving Mom to Julie (Clif), Anne (Christiane), Robert, and PamRose (Kevin). A loving step-Mom to Doug (Cathy), the late Shirley & David Thompson; and Dorothy & Tommy Scissons. She will be immensely missed by her brother Marcel. Predeceased by sisters Françoise, Nicole, Rachelle, Lise, Denise, Lorraine, brother Robert, and brother-in-law Raymond.
Dearest Grandmaman of Sydnie, Danyca, Derek, Nichon, Letitia, and Roxanne. Darling Grandma to Donavon, Rebecca, Candice, Brianna, Angela, and the late Christopher.
Dear Aunt to many nieces and nephews, and a second Mom to Micheline. She will be missed greatly by her many great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-laws, cousins, and friends.
Trudy was an elegant and vivacious woman. She loved to host holidays, where she looked adorable in her cute aprons while baking or cooking.  
Gert cared immensely for her family and friends, always ready to visit a loved one or spend time chatting with them on the phone.
Gert was a very proud and conscientious Postmaster. Even in her personal life, she brightened everyone's day by sending holiday and birthday cards. She ensured everyone felt cherished and appreciated.
She was generous, supporting many different causes. She especially enjoyed volunteering at the Centrepointe Theatre in her later years.
Trudy loved to dance, her and Tom were the first to start the dance floor no matter where they were in the world! She traveled across Canada and also experienced the cultures of many different countries from Mexico to Holland to Australia.
She loved to dance and play cards at the Barrhaven legion, always ready to party! Through dancing she made many life-long friendships.
A true Pisces, she swam often with her Grandchildren at pools and at the Ompah cottage! She was a role model to many on how to be an affectionate Grandmother.
Her daily speed walks and 'Good mornings!' will be greatly missed by her Westboro neighbours.
She was a woman of Faith, diligently participating at the Bethel church in her Sunday best. She prayed every morning and kept all of her family in her prayers. She will continue to live through our memories for many years to come. Trudy will be forever in our hearts.
A service will be held on January 10, 2024 at Pinecrest/Cole Funeral home, 2500 Baseline road Ottawa. The wake will be held 10am-12pm, immediately followed by the service in the chapel, then the reception.

C'est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Trudy (Gert) le 17 décembre 2023.Trudy est née le 6 mars 1941 de feu Gabriel et Lucie (Lalonde).
Elle a eu la chance d'avoir grandi dans une famille francophone et de s'être mariée dans une famille et une communauté anglophone. Cela lui a permis d'être affectueusement connue sous de nombreux noms. Gertrude, Gert, Trudy, Mom, Momma, Aunt, ma Tante, Grandmaman, Grandma, arrière grand-maman, et pour certains, arrière-arrière-grand-mère.
Épouse bien-aimée de Thomas John (Tom) Scissons et de feu Clarence Thompson. Elle était la mère aimante de Julie (Clif), Anne (Christiane), Robert et PamRose (Kevin). Elle était la belle-mère aimante de Doug (Cathy), de feu Shirley et David Thompson, et de Dorothy et Tommy Scissons. Elle manquera énormément à son frère Marcel. Prédécédée par ses sœurs Françoise, Nicole, Rachelle, Lise, Denise, Lorraine, son frère Robert ainsi que son beau-frère Raymond.
Grand-mère adorée de Sydnie, Danyca, Derek, Nichon, Letitia et Roxanne. Grand-mère chérie de Donavon, Rebecca, Candice, Brianna, Angela et de feu Christopher.
Chère tante et « ma tante » de nombreux neveux et nièces, et une deuxième maman pour Micheline. Elle manquera beaucoup à ses nombreux arrière-petits-enfants, à ses beaux-frères et belles-sœurs, à ses cousins et à ses amis.
Trudy était une femme élégante et pleine de vie. Elle adorait organiser des fêtes, où elle était adorable dans ses jolis tabliers tout en cuisinant ou en faisant de la pâtisserie.
Gert s'occupait énormément de sa famille et de ses amis, toujours prête à rendre visite à une personne aimée ou à passer du temps à discuter avec elle au téléphone.
Gert était maître de poste, très fière et consciencieuse. Même dans sa vie privée, elle égayait la journée de tous en envoyant des cartes de vœux et d'anniversaire. Elle veillait à ce que chacun se sente choyé et apprécié.
Généreuse, elle soutenait de nombreuses causes. Elle aimait particulièrement faire du bénévolat au théâtre Centrepointe au cours des dernières années de sa vie.
Trudy adorait danser. Tom et elle étaient les premiers à se lancer sur la piste de danse, où qu'ils soient dans le monde ! Elle a voyagé à travers le Canada et s'est imprégnée de la culture de nombreux pays, du Mexique à la Hollande en passant par l'Australie.
Elle aimait danser et jouer aux cartes à la Légion de Barrhaven, toujours prête à faire la fête ! Grâce à la danse, elle a noué de nombreuses amitiés qui ont duré toute sa vie.
Tout comme son signe zodiaque du Poisson, elle nageait souvent avec ses petits-enfants dans les piscines et au chalet d’Ompah ! Elle était un modèle pour de nombreuses personnes en ce qui concerne la façon d'être une grand-mère affectueuse.
Ses promenades quotidiennes et ses "bonjour" manqueront beaucoup à ses voisins de Westboro.
Femme de foi, elle participait assidûment aux activités de l'église Bethel, vêtue de ses habits du dimanche. Elle priait tous les matins et gardait toute sa famille dans ses prières. Elle continuera à vivre. dans nos mémoires pendant de nombreuses années. Trudy restera à jamais dans nos cœurs.
Un service aura lieu le 10 janvier 2024 à la maison funéraire Pinecrest/Cole, 2500 rue Baseline, Ottawa. La famille recevra les condoléances de 10h à 12h, suivie immédiatement du service dans la chapelle, puis de la réception.
