Obituary of Daniel Richard Brown
We are deeply saddened to announce that Danny Brown passed away at age 50 after a wonderful and full life in Ottawa; where he grew up, lived, and raised his family.
Danny is survived by the love of his life and partner of 25 years Kristin Brown (nee Hanson), his pride and joy, son Jake (Jacob James) age 18; his parents Dick (Heather) Brown, Peggy Edwards (stepfather Jo Hauser); his sisters and brothers Patty Stevenson, Jamie Innes, Lisa Hauser and Julie Hauser; and in-laws Steve and Jeannine Hanson and Penny Henwood and the late Doug Henwood. He is mourned and loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces in four extended families.
Danny has always been his own person: gentle, determined, loyal, fun, creative, and very funny. He is perhaps best known for his bad dad jokes. From a young age, he was passionate about music and a natural athlete in every sport he tried. He also had a very curious mind and was writing and learning code on his Commodore 64 when he was just 10 years old. He is greatly loved and will be sorely missed by his many friends including his fur babies Murphy Brown, Millie and Juno.
Danny is a graduate of Carleton University and Algonquin College. In 2005, he joined Carleton University where he became the first manager of web services. A natural leader and collaborative colleague, he built and implemented a coherent, functional and attractive web presence for the university. Throughout his career, he continued to direct web strategy, built the first employee intranet, developed the university’s first smartphone app, and was instrumental in helping Carleton pivot to online learning during the pandemic. For the past five years he served as Director, Enterprise Applications.
Please join us in celebrating this remarkable man at the First Unitarian Congregation located at 30 Cleary Ave, Ottawa, on 16th January 2024 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Boys and Girls Club would be greatly appreciated.
Oh Danny Boy, we love you so.
