Obituary of John Stephen Adams
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John Stephen Adams (Steve) 79 of Stittsville, Ontario, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at The Ottawa Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Steve is survived by his wife and best friend of 60 years Wendy, son John (Angela), daughter Sara (Ron) and 4 grandchildren (Matthew (Rebecca), Samantha, Christina and Jack). He is predeceased by his parents.
Steve was born on May 08, 1944, to William Alfred Adams and Clara Elizabeth Adams in Toronto, Ontario and he grew up in Beeton, Ontario. A graduate of the University of Guelph, he married Wendy Spencer of New Liskeard in 1968 and they moved to Timmins, Ontario in 1969 to teach at Timmins High and Vocational School. Over his career in teaching of 21 years, his Math, Economics and Yearbook students appreciated his classes where they learned to be the best they could be.
Always interested in business, Steve opened a Mark’s retail store in Timmins. He enjoyed working with the staff and meeting the needs of customers for 15 years.
Upon his retirement from education and retail in 2010, he was elected to Timmins City Council. Steve considered it a privilege to work with the mayor and other councilors to improve the quality of life for residents of the community that had offered his family a home for many years.
However, Steve was quick to say that he was most proud of the efforts and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and that he considered his family to be his greatest legacy.
Family and friends will gather at Highland Park Cemetery, 2037 McGee Side Rd, Carp, ON K0A 1L0 on January 29, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00pm, to honor Steve’s life and many accomplishments.
The family appreciates the medical care and attention that he received in Hematology at The Ottawa Hospital during his battle with leukemia. Donations in Steve’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
