Phyllis O’Neill became our friend late in life. We did not know how late until she was taken from Gary, her beloved family and the rest of us In her prime. While she was not our teacher in a scholarly sense, she taught us the finer points of euchre and of her highly-developed sense of life’s values before she left. We will regret her departure and the effect it has had on her loved ones as long as memory endures.

Gary and family,
Words cannot express my sorrow over Phyllis’ sudden illness and passing. She will be missed at our weekly LSM golf games, but I know that all of the ladies will keep her spirit, friendship and love of the game close to our hearts as we continue on without her. I have been blessed to have had a small part of Phyllis in my life. The example she displayed through her friendships, family and marriage left one wanting to be more like Phyllis. She was much respected, a great listener and provided sound advice whenever I asked. I will miss my friend. Angels are among us, and I believe Phyllis received her wings.
Sending love and keeping you close in prayer as you go through this very difficult time.

Dear Grandma,
It’s Eleanor and I am writing you this letter to tell you how much I appreciate everything you did for me and the family. I have made so many unforgettable childhood memories with our family and that us all thanks to the wonderful family you and grandpa built together. I will never forget the times we spent baking desserts and going on nature hikes together at the cottage. One of my favourite memories with you was when it was just us and grandpa at the cottage and I got to spend so much quality time with the two of you - going out to breakfast and having nice dinners together. Another great memory I have is our trip to Florida last March break, more specifically the night we went out for a fancy dinner at the clubhouse for daddy’s birthday. I remember feeling so proud to have such loved and special grandparents. Thank you for making the cottage an environment where I always felt loved and welcome. You are an incredible grandma and woman and I will always look up to you in hopes to be half as special as you are when I grow up. I love you bigger than the whole world and I will never be able to thank you enough.
Love, Eleanor
P.S. I will try not to bite my nails and remember to eat like you’re with the queen.

Dear grandma,
We have spent a lot of time together. At the cottage, we used to go on the boat and take a dip in the cold and refreshing lake but I didn't like the cold so I would never go in. You were the one who taught me how to golf properly.
We have shared many wonderful memories such as…
Going to Sue Ellen’s for ice cream. I always chose bubblegum because I would like to chew the gum after licking the ice cream
We also went to the pub
I will always remember skiing with you and then going for lunch in the main chalet.
I am so glad that we went to Florida to visit you and grandpa last March Break and we went swimming, went for walks but I was always so scared that an alligator was going to pop out at any point and we also shopped at Target together and you were choosing bikinis for me (even though Eleanor did not want me to get a bikini)
We also always had fun at holiday get-togethers - Christmas Day and other holidays
I also remember doing puzzles with you at the cottage
I also really enjoyed Canada weekend at the cottage because of the fireworks deep fried food
I want to let you know that I admire how fit and athletic you are. I want to be able to do the same kinds of things that you and grandpa are able to do when I am your age. I will always remember you.
You’ll always have a special place in my heart.
I LOVE YOU !!
Love,
Adele

Dear grandma,
I am writing this letter to attempt to show you the amount of love that not only I have for you but everyone who has ever been close to you, but I don't think that it's possible to express that amount in a letter, it would have to be a whole novel just to demonstrate that. All the fond memories we have all had with you, you are the most positive person I have ever met and I will meet. As many have said, you always see the glass half full, never half empty. I love the wonderful times we spent together at the cottage, all the breakfasts, the lunches and the dinners, all the golf days dock days and rainy days, all the board games, card games and drawing games—just everything. Thank you for all the tips in golf, all the meals that you made, all the desserts that you made, and all the times that you spent your money to give everyone else a good time, thank you for all the memories that will forever be with me. Something that I would want with all of my heart is for you to have spent the last moments of your life in peace, thinking about something you love. I hope that you will be watching down on me from above, guiding me through all the tough decisions that I might come across in my life, and maybe guiding me through some golf games. It sucks that everything needs to come to an end, but if the rumours are true, you will be in a better place. I just want you to know that I love you to the moon and back.
Thank you for being the best grandmother that all the kids could ask for.
I love you
Emmett

I love my grandma so much. I loved spending time with her at the cottage, golfing, and having parties at her house. I appreciate all that she did for me like taking us out for breakfast, lunch and dinner, keeping the cottage clean and getting us new things to use in the water. She was the nicest, most kind grandma ever and she always put a smile on my face. I love you grandma.

Gary, I was so saddened to hear of your sudden loss of Phyllis. I so much treasured all the laughs we shared at Holy Spirit School both before and after her retirement. She was such a welcome fixture at the school for so many friends and dearly loved by so many. I especially enjoyed sharing some laughs when I would see her at my son's (Tyler) dueling piano show where she would often attend with Rita and her many close friends. Phyllis was one of those people who was anxious to share the positive things in life and I will always remember her one of the best in our close circle of friends at Holy Spirit School.

Dearest Gary, Lori, Michael and Kevin,
I was a friend of Phyllis for over 50 years. We started our friendship in our early teaching days at TD McGee in Beacon Hill. We shared so many laughs about raising our families, teaching children and our daily life struggles. We always found humour inspite of it all. Over the years our paths changed but our friendship never ended. Phyllis always had time to visit with me and we often met for lunch to catch up. Phyllis was a very special person in my life. I will miss her dearly. I love you very much Phyllis. She is now my Guardian Angel.
Gary and family, I’m so so sorry for your loss. She will be greatly missed and cherished by so many.
All my love,
Rita Olson
