Obituary of CWO Charles (Chuck) D. Powell CD (Ret'd)
With family at his side, Chuck passed away peacefully on 01 March 2024. Chuck was born in and grew up in Woodstock ON. He is predeceased by his parents Charlotte (Cayley) and Delbert Powell, and his siblings, Bill, Margaret, Laurie, and Jackie. His brother George resides in St. John's NL. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dale (Giddings), and his sons Jonathan (Susan) of Ottawa and Robert (Wendy) of Curaçao, as well as grand-children, Lisa, Kristina (Davin), Kelly (Marc), and Eric (Shyla), and great-granddaughters, Baya and Isla.
Chuck left Woodstock in 1954 to join the RCAF and expand his horizons. He met his wife Dale in these early years, and they were married in 1958. After proudly serving his country for 38 years, Chuck retired in 1992 as a Chief Warrant Officer. Chuck was posted to many RCAF Stations and several bases during his career, including, CFB Clinton, 4 Wing Baden-Soellingen, CFB North Bay, CFS Gander, and CFSRS sites within the Ottawa area. After retiring from the RCAF, Chuck worked for the Corps of Commissionaires for five years, and then finally settled into retirement. Chuck and Dale travelled to various RCAF and FCO reunions in the following years. Chuck enjoyed reading, making wine, working on family genealogy, spending time with family, helping whenever needed, and sharing a cup of coffee or glass of wine with Dale on their balcony.
Chuck will be deeply missed by family and friends. We will miss his many stories of days gone by, his tuneful ditties, and his dry sense of humor, but he will remain always in our thoughts and hearts.
