Obituary of Mabel Iris Bennett
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mabel Iris Bennett (Fitzpatrick) on March 6, 2024, at the age of 101.
Iris died peacefully at the VIVA Retirement Community in the early hours of March 6th. She is dearly missed by her family and is survived by her daughter Diane, son Douglas, daughter-in-laws Linda and Judie as well as her grandchildren Robyn, Kathryn, Adam, Andrea, Dawson, Holly, Mason and Jaden and all her great-grandchildren. She was pre- deceased by her husband Don and son David.
Iris, beautiful, inside and out, was a gentle and caring wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and friend. Warm and sensitive in her demeanour, Iris approached life with enthusiasm, love, and sophistication.
Born and raised in Ottawa, the eldest of five, Iris spent many of those years helping her Mom run a busy household while going to school to complete her studies. At the age of 18, Iris was employed by Bell Canada where she continued her career up until she married Don in June 1948. Iris, then, refocused her ambitions to raising a beautiful family.
Many don’t know that Iris was an avid Blue Jays fan. Cheering on her team, rain or shine, as they played to win season after season. She loved spending time with her family, the outdoors, flowers, dogs, reading and old films that she shared with her grandchildren when visiting for grandma-and-me, play dates. Anne of Green Gables was a favourite.
Iris, touched many, and will be deeply missed. It is with heavy hearts that we have to say good-bye. We look forward to seeing you one day Iris. While you are not with us, you will never be forgotten.
