Obituary of Donald West

Don passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024 at the age of 90 years. He is survived by his wife Aileen Swansburg West, sons Brian and Kevin (Samantha), grandchildren Chloe, Sienna and Hudson, and niece Rebecca West. He was predeceased by his parents Albert Victor West and Mary Law Brown (West), his sister Edith, and his two brothers Victor and Robert.

Don was an economist for many years with the federal department of agriculture in Ottawa after earning his PhD in Agricultural Economics in 1963 at Penn State. He was born and raised on a vegetable farm near Leamington, Ontario and attended Ontario Agricultural College. In retirement, his interests included  travelling, gardening and curling. He was also an active member of Bells Corners United Church and a director of the Ottawa West End Community Chaplaincy (OWECC). 

Friends are invited to gather for a memorial service at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road in Ottawa, on Saturday March 30, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, Don’s family will walk to the gravesite for the inurnment while guests will be invited to gather for refreshments in the Solarium.
