Obituary of Sheila Glenda Johnson (nee Moore)
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom at Carlingwood Retirement Residence on March 29th. Born on June 22, 1934 in Ottawa, Sheila was the daughter of Allan and Norah (Moreland) Moore.
Predeceased by our father, Robert Johnson in 1998, Sheila is remembered for her love of family, spirit, and tenacity by Jeff (Mary Margaret), Eric (Denise Andrews-Johnson), Grant (Shelley), and Norah (Peter Youell). Grandma delighted in her grandchildren Edward, Burke, Louise (Geoff Hum), Kevin (Mary Coughlin), Grace, Meredith, Rachel, Emma, Caroline, Justin, and Bryce and great grandson Felix and is remembered for her friendship and strength.
Having lost her mother at the age of ten and being an only child, Sheila wanted a large family and dedicated her life to supporting and nurturing her family, father, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Sheila graduated in nursing from the Ottawa Civic Hospital (class of 55), forming many life-long friendships, and married the love of her life, Bob, in 1956; a couple inseparable for 42 years (except Men’s bowling on Wednesday nights!). Influenced by the active Glebe community where she grew up, Mom was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, whether at home on Alta Vista hosting late-night parties, at the cottage in Norway Bay, or with the lady's auxiliary at Rideau Park United Church. Also, Mom particularly enjoyed skating on the canal, a daily swim at “The Bay”, dancing at the “Chateau”, long walks with our dog Ralph, and travel to warm destinations with friends.
The values of generosity, caring, integrity, commitment, and love-of-life our parents lived were immeasurable gifts to us.
We are extremely appreciative of Dr. Cohen, Shano, Luci, and Natalie, and all the very supportive and loving staff at Carlingwood Retirement Residence, for their exceptional care.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a visitation at 11am and funeral service starting at noon, followed by a reception at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, Ontario (613-829-3600) on Friday, April 5th. Interment will take place after the funeral for the family and other friends who wish to attend.
As expressions of sympathy, donations in Sheila’s memory may be made to Rideau Park United Church, Ottawa or Knox United Church, Bristol, Quebec.
