Obituary of Kalman Fejes
With his family by his side, Kalman Fejes, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed peacefully into his eternal rest on September 11, 2024, at Queensway Carleton Hospital, at the age of 87. Kalman leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth cherished by his wife of 55 years, Julia, his son Thomas and daughter Kristina, his daughter-in-law Kriszta Kovacs, and his son-in-law Steven Wilson. His grandchildren Jordan (Jen), Mason, Stefanie, Adam, and Sophie, who lovingly called him "Papa," will forever hold his memory close.
Kalman’s sister Catherine Pasztor in the USA, brothers Attila and Karoly, along with their families in Hungary, mourn his loss from afar. Kalman was predeceased by his parents, Kalman and Eszter Fejes, and his beloved daughter Ildiko.
Born in Hungary, Kalman was shaped by a love for freedom and a passion for learning. After the failed 1956 revolution against Soviet communist occupation, he courageously left his homeland in search of a freer life in Canada. Though faced with early challenges—menial jobs while learning English, redoing his final year of high school despite already having started an engineering degree in Budapest, and changing his studies from Engineering Physics at the University of Toronto to Computer Technology at Radio College—Kalman’s determination never wavered. He built a rewarding career as systems analyst and later as a networking/security specialist, working for Honeywell, the Federal Government, and finally Kyberpass Corporation.
In retirement, Kalman found joy in his garden and dedicated himself to his special-needs daughter, Ildiko, and his grandchildren, becoming a dependable, loving presence in their lives. His patience, intelligence, and sense of humour were the cornerstones of his character, touching everyone who knew him.
In his final years, Alzheimer’s began to steal away pieces of the brilliant and compassionate man he was. Despite this, his spirit and the love he shared remained undimmed.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Queensway Carleton Hospital's D3 unit for their compassionate care.
