Obituary of Christina Colantonio (nee D'Abramo)
It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to our loved and adored wife, mother and grandmother, Christina Colantonio. Christina passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, surrounded by her family. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Daniel; her cherished children, Daniel Jr. (Sylvie), Karen (Luigi), David (Amy), and Lisa; and her grandchildren, David (Madison), Sarah, Zachary (Chelsea), Esther, and Jordan (Juliana). The first-born child of Nicola and Madeleine D’Abramo, Christina was a big sister to Anthony (Dina), Angela (late Serge) and Joseph (Mary), and a caring auntie to many nieces and nephews. Christina was a loyal friend and confidant to many and treasured her long-lasting friendships.
Christina was born in Montreal on July 20, 1939, and lived there most of her life before moving to Ottawa in 2019 to be closer to her children. She was a multi-faceted woman with many strengths and abilities. Music played a large role in her life. She was an accomplished pianist who also studied violin at the Conservatory (Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal) and shared her gift through various music ministries for over 60 years, including as an integral member of two music groups: The Liberty Trio and New Beginnings Ensemble. Along with her husband, she also co-led the Maranatha Singers and numerous church choirs. In addition to her involvement in music, church, and enjoying time with her large circle of friends and cherished family, Christina was a sought-after executive administrator with a long career in the Department of Social Work at the Montreal Children's Hospital.
Christina was a devoted follower of Jesus and lived out her faith in word and through actions. She and her husband, Daniel, led a Prison Outreach for many years, bringing love, friendship, and hope to those cast aside by society. Christina also had the gift of hosting; her door was open to everyone and there was always room at her well-prepared table, lavished with delicious food and wonderful desserts. She loved to entertain people around her table. Her conversation, laughter, sharp wit, and warm embrace will be deeply missed by those who loved her dearly.
