Obituary of Allan James Wing
With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Allan James Wing on December 6, 2024, at the age of 79. Allan was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of everyone he met with his warmth and kindness.
Born on April 17, 1945, to Ronald and Kathleen Wing, Allan grew up in Carleton Place alongside his sisters, Ronalea (predeceased) and Judy, and his brother, Bob (Rosalyn). He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ronalea, and his first and second wives, Sylvia (née Marks) and Sharon (née Gooden), who each held special places in his heart.
Allan worked at the Ottawa Citizen for 35 years, where he was respected for his dedication and hard work. Outside of work, Allan found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He had a passion for fishing and a green thumb, nurturing plants with care and filling his gardens with beauty. Allan famously barbecued 365 days a year, braving all weather to share delicious meals with those he loved.
Allan is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Leanne (Marc) and Andrea (Darren), who were his greatest source of pride. He adored his grandchildren, Mallory and Nathan, who brought him great joy. Allan will be deeply missed by his surviving sister Judy, his brother Bob, and countless friends and extended family members.
Allan’s life was marked by love, resilience, and a deep appreciation for family. He leaves behind a legacy of generosity, strength, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A Celebration of Allan’s Life will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery, arranged through Cole Funeral Services. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will follow on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with burial and a reception immediately afterward. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in Allan’s memory.
