Obituary of Douglas Lloyd Fulford
In his 86th year, Doug passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Civic Hospital on December 15, 2024. Beloved husband of the late Barbara Fulford for 40 years. Loving father of Daina (John), Paul (Deb), Gary (Terri-Lee), and Jeff (Shelley). Special Papa to Alex, Nick, Audrey, Jacob, Ben, Hannah, Brandon, Megan, Emma, Michael, Matthew and Ryan. Dear son of the late Echlin and Hester and beloved brother to David, Maurice and his late sister Marilyn. A dear uncle to his many nieces and nephews and brother-in-law to Claire, Brian and Kathy. Doug was raised in Carp, Ontario, and had many adventures with his best friend and partner in crime, his brother Dave. Doug completed his Bachelor's Degree in Science from Carleton University in 1964. He and his first wife, Frances, moved west, where they raised Daina and Paul in Sarnia and Burlington. Doug had a long and successful career as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative with Horner and Merck Frosst.
In 1984, he married Barbara, and they moved back to the Ottawa area together. Doug purchased the Fulford family cottage on the Ottawa River from his parents. Soon after, his brother Dave bought the cottage two doors down and the fun continued. Memorable cottage summers were spent boating, BBQing and enjoying beer with generations of family and friends on the river. Together with Barb, Doug enjoyed many travels, cruises, and dinner parties. As loving grandparents, Doug and Barb travelled far and wide to spend time with their grandchildren and to celebrate their pursuits and accomplishments.
Special thanks to Red Oak Retirement for their kind and gracious care, making it home for Doug since 2019. Special thanks to the medical staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, the Civic Hospital and the Bruyère Memory Clinic for their outstanding care and compassion.
