Obituary of Donald Doyle
It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of Donald "Don" James Doyle. He was deeply loved by his wife Heather of 50 years, and his sons Paul and Gregory.
Predeceased by his parents Robert Doyle and Pearl Doyle (Stinson), brother Bob Doyle (Pam) and sister-in-law Donna Ogilvie (Wayne). Survived by his brother-in-law Wayne Ogilvie of Courtenay B.C., nephew Ed Ogilvie and family of St. Catharines and sister-in-law Pam Pols (Bob), Belleville and many cousins from the Kingston and Sharbot Lake area.
Don was an employee of the Ottawa Catholic School Board from 1970-2000 serving as a teacher (Frank Ryan and St. Paul), Physical Education Consultant, Vice-principal (St. Mark and St. Peter) and Principal (St. Mark) until his retirement in 2000. Don enjoyed sports as a player, a fan and a proud dad. He played lob ball with the Edugators, floor hockey, touch football, squash, hunted and fished and was a downhill skier. He especially loved golfing with his retired school board colleagues, the “Wednesday Wackers”. He was an avid NFL fan cheering on the Steelers and the Chiefs.
He had a great interest in the music of the 60's and 70's and was an avid reader of science fiction, thrillers, tales of the wild west and history.
Don was a larger than life guy at parties and gatherings with his booming voice, witty humour and competitive nature with any game being played.
We spent many winters traveling to warm destinations- California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Portugal, New Zealand, and Australia. Summers were spent at the family cottage on Lake Clear, where many memories and friends were made and welcomed.
A Celebration of Life for Don will take place at Cole Funeral Services & Pinecrest Remembance, 2500 Baseline Road, on Tuesday November 19, from 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. words of remembrances of Don at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation-Hepatology Research or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
